Coven: a word that refers to a gathering of witches.  In this case “small” refers to the members of the coven and not the size of the coven itself.  Why?  Because this is about kids witch costumes.  Witches are an inextricable part of our culture, and wherever you go there will be some equivalent of the witch figure.  Historically, people who had witch-like powers were held in high regard, though many of these powers were actually the results of natural phenomena and applied knowledge.  Still, it doesn’t dilute the magic that the character of the witch holds.

In the context of Halloween, the witch is of the Western type.  The traditional concept of the Western witch is a woman, often old and ugly, who uses her powers for wicked deeds.  There are of course, male witches, though the term often used for them, “warlock”, is subject to much controversy.  The traditional garb of a witch character in the West is a long black robe, a pointy hat with a wide brim, and a broomstick for riding.  Kids witch costumes follow on the same lines, though the broom is optional in many cases.  Witch costumes are always popular among little girls, who are attracted to the magical powers that witches were supposed to have.

The robe for childs witch costumes is often black in keeping with the Halloween theme, though other colors are not uncommon.  Some such colors are dark green, deep blue, and intense shades of indigo and violet.  The robe can vary in length, from about knee-length to full-length, all the way to the ground.  It is often loose-fitting, with long sleeves opening up wide at the ends.  The robe may be plain, but it could also be embellished with all manner of designs.  Common Halloween-themed accoutrements are crescent moons, spiders, stars, webs, and other designs.

Though witches, according to the collective consciousness, carry long-handled brooms around, boys and girls witch costumes may fore-go this accessory.  The reason is simple.  Full-sized brooms can be hard to carry around, especially for a child.  Even small, kid-sized witch brooms can be cumbersome, especially when going trick-or-treating.  After all, that hand could probably go to better use holding a bag full of candy, right?  In any case, the broom may be replaced with a suitably witchy wand, for “casting” magic spells willy-nilly during play.

Due to the uncomplicated nature of the costume’s largest piece, the robe, it can be a simple matter to make a girls or boys witch costume on your own.  This also has the advantage of letting you choose exactly what color and exactly how long you want it to be.  The hat is most likely to be the difficult part.  The hat can be stiff and tall or just pointy but quite floppy; it’s simply a matter of preference.  The wide brim is a must though, since it could not be called a witch’s hat otherwise.  This is a particularly good opportunity to allow your child to express herself by decorating the robe and hat with stick-on pieces that she likes.  Have fun!

The Candy Corn witch costume (aka Kandy Korn witch costume) is one of the most popular amongst girls every Halloween. It is very distinctive in its design as it is made almost 100% of orange and black.

If you want to look just like Candy Corn then you’ll need to get some well polished black shoes. You should also get some knee high black and orange striped socks. The next key component to this costume being a success is the skirt. The skirt should be orange or yellow with black trim. You’ll most likely be able to wear a white shirt with a black waist coat to top of this costume.

A pointed hat and broom is something thats common to all witches. Every famous witch always has a very unique pointed hat. In the case of Candy Corn, the hat should be orange and black to fit well with the rest of the costume.

Its important that all the colors are the same tone so that the costume look professional. The last thing you want is to have a costume with 4 different tones of orange – it just wont look good.

Witch Costume Accessories

There are a few basic witch costume accessories that go a long way to dramatically improving your look. Below I’ll fill you in on what I think are the best accessories for witch costumes.

A witches broom is a must have if you want to look the part this Halloween. Luckily you can find a decent broom in most houses these days. If not, you’ll be able to pick one up for just a couple of dollars at your local department store.

Most witch costume come with a hat, if yours doesn’t you’ll want to get one however. A witches hat should be pointed and black. You could even consider making one yourself if you don’t have money to buy one.

A black witches cat is another cool accessory you can carry with you this Halloween. Any stuffed black cat will do.

Stripped stockings are another common piece of clothing witches have. Many witch costumes will come with these included, if you’re doesn’t – then this is something else you could consider added to your costume.

A Night Of Magic And Witches

A slumber party or a pajama party is a sleepover that is held by teenagers or children where they invite people to stay overnight in their homes or rooms.
